St John's CE First School

Special Educational Needs

The introduction of the Children and Families Act 2014 has led to changes in the way Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support is accessed and implemented by schools, Local Education and Health Authorities and Social Care.

In September 2014, a new code of  Practice (The SEND Code of Practice 0 – 25 years) was launched. The terms  School Action and School Action Plus have been replaced with a single category of ‘SEN Support’ and Statements will be replaced with Education, Health and Care Plans.

As part of this new Code of Practice, each school setting is required to publish a SEND Information report, which details how their setting can support children with SEND and Disabilities.

Please find below St John’s CE First School SEND Information Report.

As well as finding this report on our school website, it can also be viewed on the Dorset Local Offer Website. Here you will be able to see what support is available for children with SEND/ Disabilities across other settings within the Local Authority.

Here at St John’s  CE First School we welcome children with a range of Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities. We work in partnership with outside agencies and Parent/Carers to ensure early identification  and effective provision  in order to  remove barriers to learning and therefore improve long term outcomes for all children.

Miss S Lemon is our school SENCo. She is in school every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On these days from 8.45am - 9.30am Miss Lemon offers a drop in session for Parents/Carers who would like to speak with her regarding any concerns or queries that they may have about their child/children. Should Parents/Carers wish to speak with Miss Lemon at other times please make an appointment with the main office.
